Questions for the Week of April 30th

1. What does Esperanza mean when she says to Miguel that there is a "deep river" that runs between them? Does this change in California? If so, describe how their relationship changes and give reasons for why this might happen.

2. Describe the cabin where Esperanza must live in America. How does this home compare to her home in Mexico? When Esperanza points out these differences, why does Mama become angry with her? Is Mama right to be angry with her? Why or why not?

Hi everyone, this book is getting really good! When Esperanza there is a deep river between, she means that she is higher than he is. Esperanza thinks that she is a queen and Miguel is a poor servant. Their relationship changes a lot when they go to California. She is now poor too and must learn to live. She and Miguel are now equals, even though Esperanza used to think she deserved better before mama got sick. She now needs to work and earn a living like Miguel did. I think she now seems closer to Miguel because she knows what it is like to be poor.

The cabin Esperanza is living in is small and dusty. She is not happy at all because she was used to living in a big grand place. Mama becomes angry with her because she thinks Esperanza should know that they are lucky they even get a cabin. Mama is right to be a little angry with her because Esperanza should be more thankful and not insult people who live like this.

HOLA GUYS! Me agian! For the first ?, I did'nt really get what Esperanza ment that. It confused me! For the second ?, the small cabin differs to her big beautiful house in Mexico by how small it is, how dirty it is, bacicly just how it looks diferent. Mama became angry with Esperanza because she kept complaining about where they had to live. Mama was right to be angry with her because it is like, better than nothing! It's that or go live on the street! I would rather stay where Esperanza is staying than out on the street! Would you guys? Bye!

SR-The first questions means: What does Esperanza mean when she says there is a deep river that runs between Esperanza and Miguel? It's a metaphor that we would like you to explain. The question also asks if this changes when the come to California?

sr I would want to live where esperanza is living now than on the street

Esperanza means deep river because she thinks that she is way diffrent than miguel and her. It does change in california now i think that he is richer than esperanza. There realtionship changes because it is like being equal right now they kind of have living. The cabin is the best where they can live so i would be happy if i were her even though she is happy now because her mom expland it to her. This home is worse her house was big and she had everything she wanted. Mama becomes angry because right now she is poor.Mama is right to be angry with her because she cant go talking about poor people if she is poor. I LOVE THIS BOOK IT ROX.

Hello, my peoples!! When Esperanza said there was a deep rive between her and Miguel she meant, that she was rich and on a higher class and Miguel was poor and on a lower class. When she moved to California her life changed by living with poor and lower class people. Before she came to the camp she didn't like poor people touching her stuff or touching her. I could tell she was discusted. Now, she lets the family like Isabel, do just that. I also think the realationship is getting bigger every chapter. Like the babies are walking now!!

Hi again!! Like SR said, the cabin really differed her old home. Now her home is dusty, non-organized, and small. Back in Mexico it was pretty, organized, and clean (well maybe not really clean beacause your living on a farm). I knew Esperanzas mama was mad. It must of imbarrested her, that her child would say,"this place is dirty and messy and a rich girl is does not belong here blah blah blah ok". Mama made the right decision yelling or punishing her because, she was imbarrest and they live in an poor persons house. How would that make you feel?

I have seen many poor people thankfully we have a welcome house (where my mom works) to bring in women and children. Sorry boys. They also have a place where you can get food too. But men can go there. When I go there, there are still people living in boxes, digging in trash cans, or sleeping on benches with news paper or a piece of cloth on them. Esperanza is very fortunet, so are we.

~Hello evrybody! So far I really like the book Esperanza rising!~

1. When Esperanza says "there is a deep river between us". I think she means that she is higher up than he is. Esperanza most likly thinks that she is kind of like higher-middleclass and poor Miguel is well...
poor.
I think that thier "friend ship" has changed alot when they go to California. However, know she's poor too!!! And know she has to learnto live in that situation. Know I guese you could say their lives both are PPPPPppppp.

1. Esparanza means that she is a higher rank then Miguel. This changes in the United States, because now she is poor too and must learn to treat Miguel with more respect, because he is not her servant anymore.
2. The cabin is smaller and dirtier than Esperanza's old home. Esperanza's mom is angry, because Esperanza still things that she is a queen and that she deserves better than others. Her mother is right, because they are better of than other people.

Hey, what’s up?
1) I agree with BP6 on this question. How she is higher than him, and she is a queen and he is a servant. I also think that if there is a deep river than you cannot cross it so Miguel and Esperanza can never be friends, or they can’t talk to each other. This does change in California because now she is like Miguel, poor. Esperanza must learn to cook, clean, and eventually work in the fields. She cannot act like she is queen of the world because she is not anymore.

2) The home she lives in, in America is really different then Mexico because, in Mexico she has a nice luxury home, and America she has a wooden shack. Mamma becomes angry because everyone she is living with has lived like this their whole life, and she sounds like a snob and a rich girl when she says these things around people that have been living like this their whole life. It is right for mama to be angry with her. Esperanza should not be rude and inconsiderate and make those remarks, but on the other hand Esperanza has never experienced this way of living. I think mama should have told her about this kind of living before they moved, or right when the got there.

I’ll see you later!!! Bye

1.Esparanza means that she and Miguel are to completly different people and that she could never love him.It seems to change because now they are like two equals and the deep river is gone.

2.The Cabin has 3 rooms. The front room is a Kitchen and the other two are bedrooms. It is small and cramped with hardly any room for the two families unlike her other Mansion in Mexico. Her mom gets angry possibly because one, she misses Mexico too much to even think about it and two,she is upset that they are actually given a genorous offer and Esparanza is still not content.

SR,
you are so right.I'd much rather live in the cabin but i kind of get why Esparanza complains.I couldn't imagine living like that.ESPECIALLY without a computer which is like where i live!

A:)
I think what Esperanza means is that they are so much different and so far away that she compares it to a deep river.Yes,I think that this changes I think what happened is the deep river flooded and Esperanza couldnt hold herself up any longer so she sank to the bottom.Down there is where everyone else is waiting for her to realize that she is all alone. once she does realize it I think that her and miguel will become really good friends.

B:)
I think that it is dusty and dirty and !VERY! squished.the house in mexico was bigger cleaner and built stronger.I think that she does because she should be thankful she has as much as she does, not thinking about what she doesnt have.Yes,because she shouldnt be complainingsome people in the camp have worse conditions.

HAPPY READING!

Hi! 1.I that when Ezperanza says that a "deep river" runs between them it means like they don't have any thing in common and they are totally diffrent. That like she is better then him and she is on a higher class.A lot changes when she moves to Caliifornia because now they are both poor.
2. The cabin she has to live in is all dusty, old, and small. She is not used to living in a small place.
P.S. thank you s.r for the info on how many days left of school

keep blogging and enjoy the book

1. The deep river that runs between them changes in California because before one was rich and one was not so now they are equal in class. 2. The cabin they live in is probably only a little larger than Esperanza’s bedroom. Her mother gets mad at her when she points these out because that is all they have. Esperanza thinks she deserves more than that.

1. I think that it changes a little. Maybe the "river" gets a little shallower or thinner. I think this because he built that washtub statue. Also the roses that he planted for Esperanza.
2. It could never compare in most things. But in some things it does compare. Like having friends and family there. I think mama is right to be mad at Esperanza. I say this because it's not like they are rich anymore. They are like everyone else and Esperanza dos'nt realize it yet.

1} What Esperanza means when she says there is a river between her and Miguel is that she is better than he is. I agree with bp6. When she says that thay become eguals when they move to California.

2} I do not think that Esperanza is happy because she is not use to living in a small ,dusty and old cabin. She is use to living in a big fancy house. I don't know what will happen next, but I think it will get better and that Esperanza's mom will get better.
