Questions for the Week of April 23rd

1. Why does the author open with a scene of Esperanza and her father lying down to hear the heartbeat of the earth? How does this shared experience seem to affect Esperanza's relationship with her father?

2. Explain Mama's reasons for leaving Mexico. Would you have been willing to make the same decision if you were in her situation? Why or why not?

I think the book is getting a little more exciting than it was at the way begining of the book.I like when they are going away, with the carriage.

1.I think that they told about esperanza and her father lying down to hear the heartbeat so that it shows that there relationship between esperanza and her father was really well but when he dies you can look back and see that there relationship was well.

2. Mamas reason for leaving mexico was a good desicion because if she didnt than the servants house would probally be burned if she didnt marry the uncle, and he would make there life more diffuctle to live. I would of done the same if i was in the situation because it would be safer if i had a daughter.

1. I think she did the first scene with her dad and her to show how close she was with him and because he was going to die and she thinks about him so much after his death and you might want to know some about him

I think she did that scene because she wanted you to see how much her father and her loved each other before her fater died and to show their friendship.
I think mamas decision was really good because the servants houses would have been burned if she had stayed. Also Luis would have taken over and he would have sent Esperanza to a different school in a different city. Luis probably would not have kept his promises.

Hey gals! Sorry I haven't posted. I think they did that at the start to show that Esperanza's dad and her will always have a conection through the earth. the 2nd question is mama left mexico because they could make no money there. They would do much better somewhere else. Mrs.B, PLEASE CAN WE READ AHEAD!!! I'M DYIN' HERE!!!

Hey my friends, how are you doing?

When the author started out the book with Esperanza lying down with her dad I think the author tried show us the relationship between her and her dad, like kmc5 said. It also shows how they bonded and not hated each other like some families do. It affects the relationship because they were very close and they did things together like lying down on the earth. When he dies she is very sad because she was close with him, and he was a part of her life.

Mama’s reason for leaving is because her husband died, her house got burned down, and if she stays she would have to marry this one guy or her life would be ruined. I would have done her decision because I wouldn’t want to marry that snob and I wouldn’t want my life to be ruined.

hello everyone!!!
1. So fare I think this book has been very toughing. I still can't belive her own father died. *cry cry* I think Esperanza and her dad had a really nice relationship.

2. Mama left because servants house would most likely be burned down if she would have to mary the uncle. Her reasons for leaving were good, but now look at Esperanza's place.

see you soon :)

I think Esperanza started like that to show that she is very close to her father and she believes in him. Just like everyone said, that is why she was really upset that he died. If they had not been close, Esperanza would not be as sad.

It is a really good thing that mama decided not to live with Esperanza's uncle. She must have been sad to leave Mexico, and it was probably hard for her, but I think she would be miserable with tio Luis. One reason that she left was because she did nnot want to live with horrible tio Luis, and she knew that if she went to the United States she would be with her friends and daughter who loved her. I would do the same thing for the same reason I just stated above.

I think that in the article we read today, Abercrombie is discriminating. Lots of people have different opinions on what is pretty and what isn't and they should know that. They are not being very smart because they should know that they could be offending someone. No offense to anyone who likes it, but I have only been in Abercrombie once, and I did not like it.

I agree with BP! As we discussed in class, many companies are "shooting themselves in the foot" when it comes to hiring practices. I also agree that there is no one description of beautiful!

Someone in class today said that Esperanza is kind of a snob. Do you guys agree? Is she discriminatory toward anyone or any class of people early in the book?

The book opened that way becuase it kind of showed Esparanza's relationship with her father and his pwn personality. It makes Esparanza sad to think about him.

Her mothers reason for leaving Mexico is because she won't have to marry Tio Luis and can be safe instead of worrying about him doing bad things to Esparanza and her mom.I would have done the same things that Esparanza and Mama did for the same reasons.

1} I think that the author stated the first scene with Esperanza lying on the ground because they wanted to show how close her and her father was. This expirience affects the relationship between her and her father because it shows how much they love each other.

2} I think that mama's reasons for leaving Mexico was because she wanted to keep Esperanza safe. I also think that she wanted to be with Esperanza. I would do the same because if I didn't then my daughter would have to go to a boarding school.

1. The opening scene tells about her and her father laying down becuase, it tells a connection between them and the earth that they stand on. It also tell a connection to each other and love between them.

2. Mama reason for leaving Mexico is so, she does not have to live with her dirty uncle and does not have to sent her child to a boarding school because, I think she always will need to live on farm land. Also, she knows the uncle want to marry her just to get voted as the mayor. If I was in the situation, I too would move away. I would never live with a liar or a person who is using me

Dear bloggers,

I think that the author opened with that scene because it was a good way to show the relationship between her and her father. And that they were very close. Which that makes his death even more sad for Esperanza I would think because if you werent very close and he was always working or doing something else I dont think it would be as hard.

If I was mama I would probably make the choice I thought was right At the time because if she wouldnt have made that decision Esperanza and the slaves lives would be ruined forever.

ENJOY YOUR BOOKS!!:)

1. I think the author started with that seen to show how close they were.IT gives you a good idea of how she felt when Papa died. 2. I think they left Mexico because they all knew tht they would have a better life here in America.
